This week, I’m covering the concept of “touch” as it pertains to the Krav Maga straight stab defense (and I’m building off last week’s video installment of inside defense).

While a straight stab defense requires a potent touch, the broader sequence of “touch, turn, chop” in making a straight stab defense is also covered briefly in the video below. Check it out!

it seemed total normally until you tried to be friendly – then it was weird …

    CJ,

I have been practicing Krav for the past eight years. About a year ago, we started to see a trend that it may not continue (the main instructor would not routinely show for class and the class size would vary from 15 to 5). I’m in Madison, WI and we have no other Krav options here, at this time. I started training in Hapkido a few weeks ago. I’m not really sold on it, so my plan is to switch to boxing classes in the next month. Nothing can compare to actual live “hands on” classes. I can’t thank you enough for the awesome instruction to keep my Krav training alive. I have a bunch of Krav DVD’s, but your instruction is much appreciated and better than the rest!

    Stay safe and train hard!!!

    Respectfully,

    Jack Leskovar

Thanks for the great videos. I am curious how the defense would change to a straight stab toward the belly area. Thanks and keep up the great work.

Glenn – as the stab is introduced lower (down the vertical centerline in this case), defenders must soften knees enough to maintain a defense that contains a “wall” to effectively defend the straight stab. Conversely, if the stab continues lower and the defender does not adjust, what he or she is left with is a dangerous, swiping motion of the hand that can neither be counted upon to address the initial danger nor the secondary danger of a slashing motion…soft the knees to change levels and maintain a wall…
