Gripping a Handgun Has Far More to do This Accuracy Than Many Think – Here’s Why.

Someone recently asked me how I held my handgun steady and on target while completing a 5-round course of fire, and I thought the answer might make for a good article.

As you likely remember, I launched GZTac with the aim of providing world-class tactical training within the intersecting arenas of hand-to-hand and firearms combat. I’ve been working with the Krav Maga principles and concepts, as well as, what I’d call “careful observation” to develop a systematic approach to the aforementioned training described above.

I’ve been to respected schools/seminars and trained with my share of excellent handgun trainers, and I’ve taken away bits and pieces from each. However, in the context of violent and ugly close quarters fighting, as in Krav Maga, I was consistently finding some issue with what I was learning in the context I’ve outlined above.

After more than a decade of thought and experimentation, I’ve landed on a series of processes or protocols that satisfy the context in which I train. To be clear, I’m not knocking anyone else, but I am pushing myself to discover a means to create EFFECTIVE, TACTICAL, REPEATABLE PERFORMANCE in my specific context.

With this in mind, I thought I’d share with you the concepts I employ in gripping the handgun. In my estimation, this protocol creates a much more “point friendly” grip and allows for quick follow-up on target if taking multiple shots. If you master this grip, you should be able to point more accurately and record multiple hits on target more quickly than during previous efforts. Want to train with us? CJ,
I just got back in town and was talking with Mike G.about how awesome your GZ Tac class was this past weekend. He told me i needed to check out the video about handgun grip as soon as i could. I watched it and went to the range a few hours later. My groups were dramatically tighter after watching a less than 9 minute video! Thank you so much for this and all the Kravology video courses. As a student who travels a lot and misses so much class time, its one of the few ways to stay connected. Thanks again!
