If you’ve been involved with Krav Maga for any amount of time, you likely have practiced defending headlock from the side, however, there are some subtle aspects of the defense that warrant discussion.
The focus of this article is to call attention to how the defense changes if the attacker turns his/her head away from the defender during the defense. Let’s call this Plan B defense, The Handle. That’s essentially how we will continue with the defense – by grabbing the handle produced by the protrusion of the sternocleidomastoid muscle (SCM) created when the attacker turns his/her head away form the defender.
