The Media and Governments are Suppressing Information about Violent Immigrants in Europe

Editor’s Note: In this article, part two in an examination of the media and governmental bias in covering up violent crime to protect immigrants, we are seeking to accurately report events that have received little (and often misleading) coverage. In our first article, we heard from one unhappy Muslim man who felt we were generalizing, when in fact our goal was to report facts. In this article, we again look at the immigrant trend in Europe and the crimes being “swept under the rug” by government and media. The issue here isn’t a generalized indictment of immigrant Muslims but rather an indictment of the media and governments to accurately report about violent crime as part of a duty to their constituents.

If you are unfamiliar with the disturbing increase in the rape of both western women and female migrants in refugee camps across Europe, this article may shock you—as will the news of how these crimes are reported (or not reported) and what is being done to stop this trend.

England
In 2012, an enormous scandal broke—over 1,400 mostly white young girls in the northern England town of Rotherham were systematically groomed, trafficked, beaten and gang raped by Pakistani Muslim men who enforced their brutal scheme by dousing girls with gasoline and threatening to light them on fire if they sought help. A report released in February 2015 confirmed that the local Labour government council and the police covered up this horror, because they were afraid of being characterized as racist or politically incorrect.

For over 15 years, criminal rape gangs were protected by the authorities because of their foreign ethnicity. Some officials were apparently ordered by their managers to withhold information on the ethnic origin of the perpetrators, the report detailed. Meanwhile, young girls were being beaten and raped, ignored, labeled liars and left defenseless.

Sweden
Sweden began opening its doors to primarily North African immigrants in the 1970s. Rapes in Sweden have skyrocketed by a shocking 1,472% since the mid-70’s, (only one other country in the world—Lesotho—has more sexual assaults).

A Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention report noted that Muslim immigrants from North Africa were 23 times more likely to commit rape than Swedish men. But a fear of being labeled Islamophobic means the press scrubs any trace of ethnicity from its reports on these crimes.

Gang rape (a crime literally unheard of in Sweden prior to the 1970s) was similarly on the rise and spurred a study of such violence. Between 1995-2006, the Swedish government tracked gang rapes, identifying a drastically increasing trend. But shockingly, after discovering the problem, they chose to terminate any further studies on the gang rape issue.

In an astounding number of cases, the Swedish courts have demonstrated sympathy for the rapists, and have acquitted suspects who have claimed that the victim “wanted” to have sex with six, seven or eight men. One perplexing case occurred in 2013, in a Stockholm suburb. A 15-year-old girl was locked up while six foreign men had sex with her. The lower court convicted the six men but the court of appeals acquitted them because no violence had occurred, and because the court determined that the girl “had not been in a defenseless position.”

In February of this year, major Swedish media reported on a brutal gang rape on board the Finnish Ferry Amorella, running between Stockholm and Finland. All headlines indicated that the perpetrators were Swedish:

• “Several Swedish Men Suspected of Rape on the Finland Ferry” (Dagens Nyheter).
• “Six Swedish Men Raped Woman in Cabin” (Aftonbladet).
• “Six Swedes Arrested for Rape on Ferry” (Expressen).
• “Eight Swedes Suspected of Rape on Ferry” (TT – the Swedish News Agency).

But on closer inspection, it turned out that seven of the eight suspects were Somalis and one was Iraqi. None of them had Swedish citizenship—so there would be no reason to report that they were Swedish. An internet radio station Granskning Sverige called the mainstream newspapers Aftonposten and Expressen to ask why they had described the perpetrators as “Swedish men” when they were actually Somalis. “That is irrelevant,” said the journalists.

In another surprising turn of events for a “free” society, Sweden Democrat Party politician Michael Hess was convicted in May 2014 for hate speech after having connected the religion of Islam with rape. According to the court’s judgment, the statement is not part of a “factual and authoritative discussion” and thus it does not matter whether or not the statements were true. (The indictment concerned a comment on Facebook that Hess posted next to an article in Aftonbladet, which was about women who were raped in Tahrir Square in Cairo.)

Norway
In Norway, almost half of all rapes committed in Oslo in 2011 (no data beyond this date could be obtained) were carried out by individuals of African, Middle Eastern or Asian origin, despite the fact that Muslim immigrants only represent 1.5-2 per cent of the population. In addition, 100% of aggravated rapes involving physical violence were committed by individuals of African, Middle Eastern or Asian origin during this time period.

When statistics on rape went public, Sweden’s political leaders absolved “traumatized asylum seekers” of blame and instead pointed fingers at police for encouraging “xenophobia and prejudice” for reporting the statistics.

In one of the worst cases of abuse in Norway this year, three African immigrants who brutally raped a 14-year-old girl where given extremely light sentences—with one receiving only community service. During the prolonged assault (details of which are so graphic we are not including them) the girl begged her attackers to kill her in order to put an end to her suffering. Despite access to details of the case, Norwegian media is refusing to report the names of three men – 18-year-old Bile Mohamed Elmi, 21-year-old Abdirizak Nur Ali and 21-year-old Mohamed Abdirisak Mohamed – involved in the crime.

Germany
A growing number of women and young girls housed in refugee shelters in Germany are being raped, sexually assaulted and even forced into prostitution by male asylum seekers, according to German social work organizations with first-hand knowledge of the situation.

Many of the rapes are occurring in mixed-gender shelters, where, due to a lack of space, German authorities are forcing thousands of male and female migrants to share the same sleeping areas and restroom facilities.

The condition has grown so perilous that, on August 18, a coalition of four prominent social work organizations and women’s rights groups sent a two-page letter to political party leaders in Germany, warning them about the situation for women and children in the refugee shelters. This letter received sparse media attention and was even removed from a popular women’s rights forum.

At the same time, growing numbers of German women across the country are being raped by immigrants. Many of the crimes are being downplayed by German authorities and the national media.

The Gatestone Institute reported last week that Germany’s top public broadcaster ZDF has decided to censor such information. A prime time crime show called Aktenzeichen XY, which seeks the public’s help in identifying criminals, refused to run a segment about a “darker skinned” rape suspect. Editor in chief Ina-Maria Reize-Wildemann explained the decision, remarking, “We don’t want to inflame the situation and spread the bad mood. [The migrants] don’t deserve it.”

The media appears to be in lock step with German politicians and their agendas as coverage of immigrant crime continues to depict a bias. Reports of the rape of a 13-year old Muslim girl (committed by another migrant) were covered up for months in Germany. In another bizarre instance, a 30-year-old Somali asylum seeker called “Ali S” who had only been out of jail for five months after serving a sentence for a prior rape conviction was again convicted for raping a 20 year-old woman in Munich. In an effort to protect the identity of Ali S, a Munich newspaper referred to him by the more politically correct “Joseph T.”

According to an editorial comment in the newspaper Westfalen-Blatt, police are refusing to go public about crimes involving refugees and migrants because they do not want to give legitimacy to critics of mass migration.

Meanwhile In Berlin, lawmakers are considering emergency legislation that would allow local authorities to seize private residences to accommodate asylum seekers. The proposal — which would effectively suspend Germany’s constitutional guarantee of private property — would authorize police to forcibly enter private homes and apartments without a warrant to determine their suitability as housing for refugees and migrants. The legislation, proposed by Berlin Mayor Michael Müller of the center-left Social Democrats (SPD) was kept secret from the public until November 9, when the leader of the Free Democrats (FDP) in Berlin, Sebastian Czaja, warned the measure would violate the German Constitution.

Similar stories of violence and cover-up can be found in Finland, France, Belgium and The Netherlands.

In the wake of these crimes and associated cover-ups, Ross Douthat, New York Times op-ed columnist recently said the following, “Here are immigrant gangs exploiting a foolish Western tolerance; here are authorities too committed to “diversity” to react appropriately; here is a liberal society so open-minded that both its brain and conscience have fallen out.”

In the end, there are serious consequences that emerge when the media seeks to mislead the citizenry and in doing so stifle any productive discourse regarding emerging and dangerous trends. When the media chooses to abandon the post as watchdog for the people and aligns themselves with ideologues of any sort, we all suffer.
