Krav Maga training can transform what it means to be you!
I’m proud to say I work in a Krav Maga organization that recognizes the importance and sacred responsibility of teaching self-defense to people from all walks of life.
The culture here is best described, perhaps, as one of excellence and openness. All of our Krav Maga instructors are top shelf, and our team here has developed a reputation as being cohesive and world-class. Because we don’t rush our instructor development here, (I have observed instructors from other Krav Maga and martial arts schools from around the country) I can honestly say we have some of the very best instructors in the country!
I’m preparing myself for Phase A instructor training in September with Krav Maga Worldwide. Chief Kirk, my chief instructor, will be teaching the first three days of the course, and while I’m nervous and excited, I’m also honored to have the opportunity to begin the work it takes to be counted among this exceptional group. I’m a father of two young children, and I take my responsibilities – including protecting my family – very seriously. Krav Maga has been an eye-opener for me.
One of my favorite times at Krav Maga Houston is test day. There’s a palpable energy in the air around me, and I’m always inspired and amazed by the effort our students bring to their first real Krav Maga test. Chief Kirk always shows up – whether he’s grading the test or not. And, he always gives an impromptu speech to the groups that are testing. Chief Kirk abhors videoing school business. As a rule, we all know not to run video when Chief Kirk is talking or demonstrating.
However, one of the apprentice candidates, unaware of the rule, began filming Chief Kirk’s speeches – given right before the testing begins. I have asked for and been given permission to post the following video – captured just before a test in June 2015 on a cellular phone. Chief Kirk is usually quietly serious and insightful. You won’t find him yelling and screaming much, but you will often feel goose bumps run through you when he talks about Krav Maga. Chief Kirk is always encouraging the students (and apprentices) to get out of their own way. We all have the ability to push through whatever obstacle we face and I am proud to be a part of something that fosters the development of something so valuable – Grit.
Enjoy this video, and I hope when you say, “It’s just me”…you know that is more than enough to face whatever stands before you.
