“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit”
– Aristotle

Aristotle’s words reflect a truth that can be experientially known by any human being having lived long enough to spend him or herself in a worthy cause. Hard work, well-planned and faithfully executed over substantial time creates a habit – fostering the kind of excellence Aristotle mentions.

However, the opposite is also true. Poor work, without planning, and thoughtlessly approached also creates a habit – fostering a kind of personal destruction in varying degrees over time. It’s this concept that should have you sweating a bit. Without the thoughtful consideration of nearly all your choices, your life’s habits are formed by the whims of circumstance and passing conveniences – your choices are, by default, chosen for you.

Krav Maga training, perhaps, makes this point more clearly and more quickly than other aspects of life, as the system itself is designed for practitioners to move from level to level with relative quickness. And, in this quickness, (1) excellence or (2) base mediocrity is formed. Proceed with caution – habits, once formed, are difficult to defeat and replace.

To take your Krav Maga training to the next level, carefully consider your approach to training, your mental rehearsal process, goal setting, and outside study to keep your intention and mind sharp and your purpose true. Without this careful consideration, you simply cannot ensure the habits you are building will lead to excellence.

CJ, is there any chance you’ll return to KMH North to teach an AM Level 2/3 class? I really got a lot out of your Monday morning classes.

    Thanks,

    Bill
