On Combat: If you haven’t read this book, it’s high time you did. If you have, maybe it’s worth another look. It’s a ground-breaking examination of humans under deadly stresses and the resulting impact on the nervous system, heart rate, breathing rate, visual acuity, auditory perception, memory – and so much more.
Grossman explores how special operators manage these stressors and the body’s natural reaction to combat – illustrating the evolution of combat and the science behind “stress inoculation” and a “bulletproof mind.” Grossman also does a fairly deep dive into the mentality of warriors, combat and killing, the emotional tolls these things take, PTSD, and the work being done to help military men and women.
This is a classic and a must read…
